Lately I’ve been feeling drawn to an easy – breezy tropical style and so I have incorporated some simple tropical decor into our home. Perhaps I’ll be back to share more of those tropical touches around our home, but today I wanted to show you around our Tropical infused dining room.
Ever since the pandemic started I have been dreaming of a tropical vacation.
I think that we all could use a very long and relaxing vacation just about now, am I right?
Summer is the time of year that our family usually takes a vacation. Last year we took a cruise to the Bahamas, and the year before we traveled to Hawaii, and so I can’t help but wonder where we may have gone to this year if circumstances where different.
So I guess the reason why I have been decorating our home with tropical touches is because deep down I just really really really wish I were on vacation, and because I can’t actually go on vacation, pretending that I am on vacation is the next best thing. 🙂
Looking around our dining room you’ll find some tropical touches. The main thing is probably this plant that I just picked up at Costco. This plant is called a Bromeliad and it’s part of the pineapple family.
This plant takes a little bit of care and so I hope that it does well here in our dining room. The main thing that I read about this plant is that you need to water the plant itself and not the soil, which I had never heard of before.
Moving around the room, in one of my corner hutches I have a parrot mug and a large conch shell. Both items add to the whole tropical look.
After we had a broken chair incident, I brought in a wicker chair to our dining room and this is now one of my favorite spots in our home. I’m actually sitting here as I type this blog post.
I usually keep these hutch doors closed but I like to open them up when I take pictures of our dining room because there is always so much to see inside of these hutches.
These corner hutches have always been a fun place for me to move around some of my favorite things.
Plus these hutches aren’t just fun to look at but they are handy at storing my extra napkins and dishes when I want to dress up my table setting.
These fun blue and white striped napkins are from one of my favorite stores, Serena & Lily.
Above each of the corner hutches are my collections of glass bottles.
Here are the ones above my left hutch….
And here are the bottles above the Right hutch.
Glass bottles are just one of those random things that I like to pick up at antique and thrift stores. I like to find bottles that are unique in shape or that are in sea-glass colors.
I feel like I can get away with collecting bottles and random dishes because I have these corner hutches to store my collections in. Otherwise I have no idea where I would put it all. 🙂
This hutch is a lot fuller than the other one, but I think it’s just because I have a lot of smaller items in this one and larger items in the other.
I feel like this hutch has a bit of that “Curiosity Cabinet” feel to it. Maybe one day I will add more shells, rocks, feathers, and other curiosity items to it to fulfill that look. I think that Curiosity Cabinets are so fun and you know that I already have lots of cool stuff around our home like a shark skull, alligator skull, framed butterflies, etc. etc. Maybe a fun fall project?
You’ll see that I’m also drawn to blue and white dishes. I tend to buy them whenever I come across them at the thrift store or yard sales. They just give me that coastal feeling.
It’s all about the little things.
I also have a few other plants in our dining room. I can’t believe how well this plant on the floor is doing. My old neighbors gave it to me when they moved away and its grown three times the size ever since.
This Meyer Lemon Tree is actually faux. I got it from Balsam Hill a few years ago but people always think it’s the real deal.
The bamboo plant stand that the lemon tree is in is quite new, I got it at Home Goods last spring.
I just love how the plant stand looks like it belongs with this plate stand that I got from World MarketForever ago. Bamboo furniture adds to that tropical look.
