Ditching My Bed and Other Bedroom Changes

Yes, you read that right, I ditched my bed!

Again!

My husband and I have done the switch from Bed to No-Bed many of times now, and I have to say, We prefer having No Bed! What I mean is NO Bed frame, just mattresses on the floor.

Read along to find out why and also take a look at some of the other changes I’ve made to our bedroom.

So I first wanted to share what our actual bed frame looked like, but funny enough, when I went searching through the blog to find a picture of our bed, I realize that I haven’t shared our bedroom with you since last Christmas, so anyway, here is the latest picture of our bed.

As you can see our bed is a slated sleigh bed that I had painted white. This bed is cute but we have had it for years and sometimes I wish for something new.  But there really isn’t anything wrong with this bed.

So then you may be asking, why did  I ditch it?

And the answer is, because sleeping with just the mattresses on the floor is actually Super Cozy!!

It’s a little hard for me to explain what makes it so cozy,  but Jake and I both agree that it does and we have had many discussions about it. My theory is that it has something to do with your body being grounded to the floor. There’s no room for energy to flow under the bed and so you get a sense of security. Again it’s really hard to explain, but it just feels really cozy to us.

This way of sleeping is actually common in eastern parts of the world, especially in Asian Countries. Which also has me thinking, what is the whole point of a bed anyway? looks? A place for storage underneath? Historically a bed’s purpose was most likely to help keep snakes and rodents away. Probably, right?

Anyway….Just my deep thoughts about a bed frame 🙂

If you would like to try sleeping on the floor for yourself, Do It! Especially if you have any problems with sleeping, because who knows, you may even find that you sleep better without a bed.

And so you know, we didn’t actually get rid of our bed for good, We just took it apart and are storing it in the garage.  There may be a time when I want the look that a bed gives to a room and so I’ll always have that option of bring it back in.

You might have also noticed that our mattress are super deep which makes them really high anyway. So there wasn’t too much of a change in the height then what we were already use to.  But it really doesn’t matter the size of your mattress, it’s more of a feeling than a look anyway.

Okay enough about the bed, I also wanted to share a few little changes I made here in our bedroom.

First of all I switched out my white curtains for some dark grey ones.  These aren’t even curtains, I’ve just cut a twin size bed sheet in half and called it good. Just changing the color of the curtains made such a huge change to our room.

I brought these old shutters back into the room and then I got creative using a braided belt as a curtain tie back. The belt has a gold clasp at the end which works well to clip to the shutter to hold the curtain in place.

I also changed out the artwork. This frame use to hang horizontally with a family photo inside. However according to feng shui you should never keep a family photo in the bedroom. I’m not sure as to why, but it’s been in the back of my mind for a very long time so I’m just glad that I finally switch it out to help ease my superstitions.  I found the black and white vintage photography prints at a yard sale and absolutely adore them.

These’s a matching frame with another one of the prints on the other side of the window as well.

I also switched out the bedside lamps. The ones we had before were too big and heavy for this space. Now I have the driftwood lamp my son made me and a wicker one that I found at a thrift store. These lamps now fit into the room so much more nicely.

Throw pillows get rotated around our home regularly because I love how much throw pillows can change up the look of a space. Throw Pillows are always my go-to when I’m looking for a quick change. This cute flower print pillow was one of my latest thrift store finds for just a couple of dollars.

I layered the bed with a plaid sheet, throw blanket, and a coffee tray creating a super cozy look.

Another trick for a quick bedroom change is to cover your bed with a colorful or printed bed sheet. It just looks like a duvet cover but it can instantly bring a new look into the room without you having to spend any money.

In the back corner of the room we have a papasian chair which is just a cozy little corner to sit and  read a book.

And speaking of books, My current favorite book is Cozy White Cottage by Liz Marie Galvan.

I Love Love Love this book! I still plan on writing up a review about this book so keep a look out for that if you are interested in hearing more.

Alright, friends that’s all for now.

What do you think?

Any thoughts on the bed vs no-bed topic?

Any thoughts or questions about our room decor?

Have a Wonderful Day!

    I currently have no
bed frame. Only mattresses on the floor. I haven't noticed a change in my sleeping but I feel like I just turned 18 and moved out of my parents house and can't afford a frame. Lol. I don't know why but I just can't seem to shake that regardless of how I decorate it.

We have had a king size bed on the floor for the last 16 years. I love it. I like the way it looks and I'm not totally sure I could commit to a frame anyways.
