Decorative Hot Dog / Marshmallow Roasting sticks

Gosh guys, I just realized I haven’t shared a post in well over a week. I think I have been so busy working on projects…. which lately have all mostly been fails! Seriously, sometimes my ideas don’t work as well as I had planned.  I could probably do a whole series on projects gone bad.

So until I have something new to share with you, I thought I’d pull out this old post from last year. I had originally shared it over atElla Claire, but never here on my own blog. So now is a better time than never.  Well actually this is probably the perfect time to share it since camping season is approaching us quickly. We even have a camping trip planned for this weekend.  My little family and I love to go camping.  We enjoy spending time out in nature, swimming in the lake, hiking, relaxing and of course, roasting marshmallows over the camp fire.

So today I’m going to share how I have decorated our families hot dog / marshmallow roasting sticks.

Aren’t they cute? This could also be a great gift to give for father’s day.

For two of the roasters, I have decoupaged craft paper onto them. I found the perfect paper at a scrap-booking store.

Here is what you will need for this project:

– Roasting sticks with wood handles

– Craft paper (something lightweight – not card stock)

– Mod Podge

– Scissors

– Paint or foam brush

Cut the craft paper to be the same size as the wood handle.

Brush Mod Podge onto the back of paper and wrap around the wood handle.  Then brush  Mod Podge over the outside of the paper to seal it. Let dry.

On the other two roasters, I painted them in polka dots with craft paints.

I first painted the handle in a solid color, once it was dry I added the polka dots using a ball pin.

By adding a ball pin to the end of a pencil it allows you to dip it in paint to create perfect,

cohesive dots.

I think they turned out so fun!

This is a really fun craft to do while camping, especially for kids.

Just remember to bring all of the supplies along.

As you can see, we have had lots of fun decorating all of our roasting sticks.

Happy Camping!!

Emily, This might be the cutest darn DIY project I've seen. What a fabulous ways to up-style a simple and practical item.

Very cute! I recently saw a picture on Pinterest of marshmallows lined up for roasting on a metal leaf rake. Not sure if it would work in real life, but if it does, it might be genius. 🙂
