Bamboo Stools Makeover

So I’ve been looking for some new stools for a while now.

The bar in our kitchen is extremely high, and with our previous stools we found it to Not be a practical place to sit and eat.

So I was super excited to find these babies:

However, they didn’t always look like this, before their little makeover they looked like this:

I picked them up at a yard sale that our library was having.

I loved the look of them, plus they were the perfect height.

But as you can see they were a little roughed up. The seats needed to be recovered and the paint finish was flaking off big time.

The First thing I did was remove the seats and give the stools a good sanding.  I scraped the old paint off with a kitchen scrub brush and some steel wool, and them I used sandpaper to get a smooth finish.

Using a pair of pliers I removed the green vinyl fabric from the cousins.

I was surprised to find this colorful fabric under the green.

I actually quite liked the look of these, I nicknamed them, ’80’s Miami’

My husband however wasn’t a fan of the look,

So he helped me pick out this navy and white fabric from IKEA.

I painted the stools with a white spray paint and then attached the newly covered seats to them.

Taking the look from 80’s Miami to Modern Coastal.

Lastly, I sprayed the seats with Scotch Gard.  This should help them to clean up nicely.

The new stools have inspired me to finally get around to painting the trim in the kitchen.

The trim was a cream color before, and now it is a fresh white.

I also hung up a new wall arrangement in our nook area.

Going with a Coastal-Nautical look.

Next I will also be painting our kitchen cabinets from cream to white.

One project always leads to another; one day I pick up new stools from a yard sale, the next I am remodeling the kitchen.
